Jailed "Madzibaba Jeremiah" Arrested For Rape
Merryward Marara of Mkoba Suburb, Gweru who masqueraded as prophet Madzibaba Jeremiah has been arrested for raping a 19-year-old Bulawayo girl.
Marara was already in Hwahwa prison, Gweru serving 12 years for rape committed in Zvishavane when he was arrested.
The state heard that in September, Marara sexually abused the Bulawayo girl during an alleged cleansing ceremony to separate her from a spell by her ex-boyfriend. The girl had, with her father, visited Marara who told the father’s girl to go back home whilst she remained for the overnight session.
Marara later told her that the ceremony needed some sperm and fluids from her private parts of which he offered to provide the sperm which he said he could not produce on his own.
He then forcibly had protected sexual intercourse with the victim once, took the sperm and mixed it with water and then gave it to the victim saying that she had to use it for bathing.

The victim who was also asked to write down her ex-boyfriend’s name on a piece of paper then went home and narrated the story to her relatives who reported the matter to the police leading to Marara’s arrest.
Bulawayo magistrate, Ms Nomasiko Ndlovu did not ask Marara to plead to rape but remanded him in custody to December 18 advising him to apply for bail at the High Court or seek consent from the Prosecutor General.
