Schweppes Zimbabwe Commissions 1MW Rooftop Solar PV System

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced that Schweppes Zimbabwe commissioned a 1 Megawatt rooftop Solar PV system at its plant.

The solar PV system is the biggest of its kind in Zimbabwe and will enable the beverages company’s lines of production to operate continually. A statement on ZERA’s social media sites reads:

Schweppes Zimbabwe commissioned a 1MW rooftop Solar PV system which is the biggest in Zimbabwe. The solar system is set to ensure continuous production.

More of such rooftop solar systems can be installed at shopping malls, hospitals, hotels and other facilities.

Zimbabwe is currently grappling with unprecedented power cuts, with some areas going without electricity for 18 hours a day.

The crisis has been blamed on low water levels at Kariba Hydro, shortages of foreign currency to import power from neighbouring countries, and constant equipment breakdowns at the country’s largest power plant, Hwange Thermal Power plant.
