46 Out Of 448 Fired Doctors Reinstated

The Minister of Health and Child Care Obadiah Moyo said 46 fired doctors have been reinstated following a 48-hour moratorium extended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa after meeting Catholic Bishops.

Addressing journalists during a post-cabinet media briefing in Harare on Tuesday afternoon, Moyo said:

The situation with regards to those who listened to the call from His Excellency, we have 46 who came back, and these 46 if they were dismissed, they are no longer dismissed, they are now reinstated.

However, the fired doctors with extenuating circumstances that made them fail to heed to the moratorium may come and we can discuss their issue should they want to return to work.

Moyo added that the government will not extend the moratorium as requested by doctors.

While 448 doctors in total were fired for not coming to work due to incapacitation, Moyo said the 56 senior doctors summoned for disciplinary hearings were pardoned.
