"They Know Me," Kasukuwere Declares Intention To Run For President In 2023

Former ZANU PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere has declared his intention to run for president in the 2023 elections.

Kasukuwere is currently in exile where he has been since the demise of former president Robert Mugabe in 2017.

Speaking to The Sunday Times his Sunday, Kasukuwere said that he was popular within and beyond Zimbabwe’s borders, something he will use during the campaign.

People want me to be the leader in leadership renewal, particularly the young people.

People know that I stood by Mugabe. As former Zanu PF commissar, I’m deeply respected within and beyond Zimbabwe. I interacted with former South African presidents Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma. They know me. I have links with business people with regional interests too.

A campaign dubbed #TysonWabantu has already been launched on social media. Meanwhile, some of Mugabe’s close associates, Professor Jonathan Moyo and Mugabe’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwawo who are believed to have been kingpins of G40 have since distanced themselves from Kasukuwere.

Moyo reportedly posted on Twitter mocking Kasukuwere saying that the only Wabantu was Zodwa, referring to the Zodwa Rebecca Libram a South African Media Personality socialite and dancer.
