"G40 Exists Only As An Idea," Jonathan Moyo

The former Minister of Information, Professor Jonathan Moyo (JM) has said that there is no group called Generation 40 (G40).

He revealed this during an interview with News Day chief reporter Everson Mushava (ND) during which he downplayed the possibility that former Cabinet Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere would come back to Zimbabwe and lead the G40 faction in the ruling ZANU PF.

His remarks come when there are reports suggesting that suspected G40 leaders, Kasukuwere, Patrick Zhuwao and himself are not in good books.

They also come when the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced a few months ago that a political party called G40 had notified the commission of its existence.

Below are the excerpts from the interview.

ND: Does G40 still exist and if it does, what is its mission?

JM: G40 exists only as a powerful idea about generational renewal, but not as a group. It is absurd that Zimbabwe’s young population is being held hostage by a clueless old guard whose politics are based on an entitlement revolution that is the enemy of human rights, diversity, inclusivity, merit and democracy.

Moyo added that the G40 theory was President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s weapon (scarecrow) to scare the electorate and draw them to himself.
