Mobile Network Operator (MNO) Telecel Zimbabwe has granted its employees a meagre $5.00 upward adjustment in daily transport allowance to capacitate them to report for duty.
A communique from the company’s chief executive Angeline Vere addressed to Telecel workers and executives stated that the daily transport allowance has been increased to $25.00 [from $20] with immediate effect. Part of the communique reads:
Management understands the reality and effect of the current challenging environment and has been making every practical effort to mitigate the effects on staff welfare whilst also keeping the company on its feet.
In the meantime, in recognition of the transport hardships, the transport allowance has been adjusted to ZWL25 per day with immediate effect.
Vere told the workers that the company is operating in a tough economic environment where operating costs have continued to soar.
The workers were urged to be patient and wait until mid-December when a possible upward review will be considered.
