‘Strive Trying To Buy Time For ZANU PF’, Journalist Comments On Masiyiwa’s Offer To Doctors

Questions have been raised over Telecoms tycoon Strive Masiyiwa’s proposal to pay junior doctors $5 000 monthly, for the next six months so that they can return to work.

Prominent journalist, Mduduzi Mathuthu opined that Masiyiwa is trying to buy time for ZANU PF since he is on record saying that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is “sincere”. Mathuthu wrote on Twitter:

It’s his money of course, but you can’t escape the feeling that a man who thinks Emmerson Mnangagwa is “sincere” is trying to buy time for Zanu PF. Happy to be wrong because ultimately, our doctors need the money and patients their doctors.

Also commenting on Twitter, a human rights activist, who is also a medical practitioner, Dr Norman Matara says the plan is not a sustainable solution. He wrote:

It is not a sustainable solution. Not long term. Doesn’t address other challenges in the health sector like chronic lack of medicines and sundries.

It targets junior doctors only and not middle-level and senior doctors District and provincial doctors not included. Good intent, but it will not work.

Masiyiwa and his wife Tsitsi announced that their charity organisation, Higher Life Foundation, had come up with a “unilateral initiative” to set aside ZWL$100 million “medical training completion fellowship” fund that will cover up to 2 000 doctors – provided that they return to work.

The Foundation also promised to provide the doctors with a smartphone, a taxi ride from home, uniforms and diagnostic aids.

  1. strive msiyiwa is an economic terrorist look at the price of data in zim and you will see that this man is as evil as zanupf is

  2. Strive is the original ‘devil incarnate’. In pursuit of millions of dollars, he will sup with the devil himself whilst throwing his customers under the bus. Why doesn’t this individual ‘come back home’ and live amongst his millions of customers? He wont, because he is hypocritical.

    1. Hey what a great gesture from a really born again Christian. No wonder why this man is blessed. Thank you Strive. God will bless you more
