Harare Pregnant Women To Pay Over $1 800 For Caesarean Section

Expecting mothers in need of caesarean section at Harare City Council clinics will now have to pay ZW$1 877.

This was revealed by Council’s finance and development committee chairperson Luckson Mukunguma while presenting the 2020 Harare City Budget. He said:

Hospital and clinic fees will remain as per 2019 rate to promote access to health by all except for caesarean section fees, which have been increased to ensure effective service delivery in this particular area.

It is expected that government grants for drugs and related programs will cover the shortfall as well as the contribution from property tax.

Mukunguma further revealed that the Council’s social service program is expected to realise its own revenue where ZW$180, 9 million should come from City Health fees.

Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa on Tuesday said that the Edith Opperman Maternity Clinic in Mbare reopened following reports that women where being forced to give birth at home.
