Harare Nurses Start Trickling Back To Work

Nurses at Harare City Council clinics have started trickling back to work after they were offered a 300% pay rise.

Harare City Health Services Head of Department, Prosper Chonzi told NewZimbabwe.com on Monday that most of the nurses have returned to work though some, especially those on night duty are still on strike. He said:

We are seeing an increase in the number that are turning up for work for example when we started on the 4th of November, there were only 23 nurses turning up for duty, as of the weekend 99 had turned up.

Chonzi added that the council is reticent on taking disciplinary action as suggested by the government, but rather, prefers to engage the nurses in dialogue.

The nurses embarked on industrial action over two weeks ago demanding a review of their salaries which they want to be pegged at the prevailing interbank rate.
