Registrar-General Accuses Human Rights Commission Of Making "Unsubstantiated" Corruption Allegations

Registrar-General, Clemence Masango has accused the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) of making baseless corruption allegations against his office.

Masango’s remarks come after the ZHRC released to members of the media claims by some members of the public purporting that there were some officials in the Registrar’s office who were engaging in underhand dealings.

Masango, however, believes that the ZHRC inquiry is all about “settling scores” rather than establishing the merits and demerits of the matter. He said:

This is no longer an inquiry in the sense of the meaning of the word because on many occasions, officials in the department have been labelled corrupt, inefficient and this has been reported in the various newspapers with some of the ZHRC commissioners having been quoted verbatim and as far as I know, those accusations have not yet been refuted.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the committee, Elasto Mugwadi told journalists on the sidelines of the inquiry that the commission had records of what people said pertaining to the department’s officers during their ongoing inquiry.
