Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Felton Kamambo has assured Warriors interim coach Joey Antipas that he has an advantage in taking over the job on a permanent basis over other aspirants if he is willing.
Kamambo revealed that the Warriors job is open to both local and foreign coaches from January 2020. He said:
We have said that Antipas is our interim coach until December 31st. On the first of January, we should have a substantive coach.
Anyone is free to apply. It can be a local coach or a foreign coach. It can be Antipas because, from my personal point of view, he is there already and he has an advantage compared to the other candidates.
Antipas was appointed interim coach after Sunday Chidzambwa’s abrupt exit a few days after the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Egypt earlier this year.
The Chicken Inn coach then announced that he would no longer be in charge of Zimbabwe after leading them to a 2-1 victory in Zambia on Tuesday in a 2021 AFCON qualifier.
