Soldier Who Opened Fire At State House Detained & Tortured Overnight – Prof Moyo

Exiled former ZANU PF politburo member and Minister for Higher and Tertiary Education, Jonathan Moyo, has availed further details on the issue of a young soldier he claimed to have emptied his rifle magazine into the air while on duty at State House on Wednesday morning.

Writing on microblogging site Twitter on Thursday afternoon Moyo claimed that the young soldier, a Magandu, was interviewed by Lt Col S Murombo, detained and tortured at KGVI. Wrote Moyo:

On arrest PVT Magandu was interviewed by Lt Col S Murombo, detained at KGVI; tortured & deprived of sleep for alleged links with opposition & foreigners; ranted that “men in suits get all the money but real army gets nothing”. He was sent for psychiatric evaluation this morning!

On Wednesday, Moyo broke the “news” of the soldier’s arrest, using the same social media platform. He wrote then:

A young presidential guard soldier emptied his magazine firing in the air at State House in Harare this morning. He was arrested as he was reloading.

He complained of hardships and said he “can’t survive in the dead economy’. He’s been detained by the military at its holding cells!
