Zim Govt Responds To China's Concerns Over Mthuli's Budget Statistics
The Government of Zimbabwe has finally responded to China’s concerns over Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube’s 2020 budget in which he claimed that the Asian economic giant availed a “paltry” US$3.6 million in bilateral support to Harare, unlike Western powers that poured tens of millions of dollars in aid.
The Chinese embassy in Harare issued a strong statement requesting the Government of Zimbabwe to “make comprehensive assessments on the statistics of bilateral supports and accurately reflect its actual situation when formulating the budget statement.”
In a statement posted on the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services’ Twitter handle, the Government of Zimbabwe said:
Govt has noted the query raised by @ChineseZimbabwe regarding bilateral aid figures captured in the 2020 National Budget Statement.
Necessary consultations are underway to establish a common accounting position. We thank the Chinese Govt for their support.
