ZESA Disconnects Only Referral Hospital In Mberengwa

Zimbabwe’s power utility, ZESA has disconnected Mnene Hospital, a mission and only referral medical institution in Mberengwa in the Midlands province.

Mnene was disconnected over over a bill of about $700 000. An official who spoke to the Herald on condition of anonymity said that they have engaged Mberengwa North legislator, Tafanana Zhou over the matter. The official said:

We are the district’s referral hospital and the situation is bad. We can’t attend to emergencies with no power. The situation at the mortuary is also very bad.

We are a critical institution and for them to switch off power is a sign they don’t care about human life.

Zhou has however said that his hands are tied on the matter since Mnene is not a government institution adding that the ZESA bill has to be paid by authorities running it.
