Harare City Council’s Director of Health Services has advised members of the public not to buy meat from unlicensed retailers as the meat is not uninspected, unhygienic and adulterated. Below is the full statement from Council:

MEAT SAFETY ALERT: NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC

The City of Harare wishes to advise members of the public to be aware of uninspected, unhygienic and adulterated meat on the market in Harare. Such meat is unsafe and unfit for human consumption.

The public is therefore advised to buy meat from licensed butcheries only. Owners of butcheries are required to purchase meat from registered abattoirs and to desist from any form of malpractices.

The City Health Department in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Republic Police has since intensified monitoring the sale of meat in Harare in the interest of Public Health.
