You Didnt Consult Civil Society Groups Before Filing Your Report - ITUC Dismisses Zim Govt's Report

The International Trade Unions Confederations (ITCU) has dismissed Zimbabwe’s report on human rights to the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) Daily News Reports. The Zimbabwean govt had presented the report to ACHPR saying they were doing their best to address the human right issue in the country.

In dismissing the report, ITCU said:

We wish to reiterate the position raised by the Zimbabwean civil society community that it was not consulted to participate and contribute to the development of this government report as provided for by the reporting conditions set out by this Commission.

Government’sexclu- sion of key incidents on rights abuses is deliberate and reflective of the current state of intolerance to critical voices and non-State actors with dissenting opinions even when such opinions and suggestions are intended to improve the situation of the rights of Zimbabweans.

Zimbabwe has been on a re-engagement drive since the new dispensation came to power in 2017, efforts that seem to be futile because of several reasons chief among them human rights abuses.
