Harare City Recognises ED As "President Mnangagwa"
Harare City Council has shockingly recognised President Emmerson Mnangagwa as “President”. The local government authority is run by the opposition MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa which has since 2018 been refusing to acknowledge Mnangagwa as a legitimate President.
The party argues that Mnangagwa in connivance with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission manipulated last year’s presidential elections and robbed its candidate, Chamisa of “resounding victory”.
MDC legislators have on a number of occasions boycotted  Parliament to show that they did not recognise Mnangagwa as the president.
The legitimacy issue has also been one of the major restraints of a dialogue between Chamisa and Mnangagwa as the MDC wants the issue to be discussed whilst the ruling ZANU PF is saying that there was nothing to discuss.
In a move that will likely shock the general populace, the local government authority posted on Twitter saying:
President Mnangagwa has praised Harare City Council for the road island beautification programme. He cited Samora Machel as one highlight of the programme. Council is championing the urban renewal project.
He added that Mayor Gomba should take mayors from other councils on tours of the beautification programme.
