Bulawayo Transgender Activist Wins Case Against The Home Affairs Minister, To Be Paid $400k In Damages For Malicious Prosecution

The Home Affairs Minister has been ordered by the court to pay a Bulawayo Transgender activist $400000 for malicious prosecution, unlawful arrest, detention and emotional distress and contumelia the Chronicle report. This came after the activist, Ricky Eugene Nathanson was unlawfully arrested allegedly for using a ladies toilet at a hotel in Bulawayo.

Nathaniel who reportedly wore a wig and makeup for the trial during the trial in 2017, who police thought to be male, was acquited by a Bulawayo magistrate who ruled that it was no crime for a man to enter a ladies’ toilet and vice versa.

Nathaniel then according to the publication:

 …….filed summons at the Bulawayo High Court citing the Home Affairs Minister, a portfolio held by Dr Ignatius Chombo at the time, Augustine Chihuri, who was then Police Commissioner General, ZRP Bulawayo Central Chief Inspector Enock Masimba and former Zimbabwe Congress of Students’ Union (Zicosu) president Farai Mteliso who reported her to the police leading to her arrest in 2014 on charges of criminal nuisance, as defendants.
