Former ZINARA Boss Jailed Over Corruption

Harare regional magistrate, Mr Hosea Mujaya has sentenced former Finance Director of the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara), Sinon Mudzingwa Taranhike to 15 months in jail for criminal abuse of office.

Mujaya had initially sentenced Taranhike to 30 months in prison before suspending 6 months on condition of good behaviour. He also suspended 9 months on condition that Taranhike pays back 1 800 litres of fuel to Zinara before December 31 2019.

Taranhike was arrested in June this year after it came to light that he had “bullied” a junior ZINARA employee into releasing 1 800 litres of fuel to some members of the local media and also abused the parastatal’s petty cash.

In passing the judgment, the magistrate observed that Taranhika had not directly benefitted from the scandal, was a family man, lost his job and was a first time offender.
