Teachers Boycott ZIMSEC Exam Invigilation At Mosi oa Tunya High

There was chaos at Mosi oa Tunya High School after teachers did not come to invigilate the History ‘O’ Level examination, leaving education administrators in sixes and sevens trying to find replacements.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) had to transport replacements from a number of different schools for the exam to go ahead at one of the largest schools in Matabeleland North. An unnamed official told NewZimbabwe.com:

Teachers are now working on Mondays only but there had been an assumption they would come for invigilation.

Unfortunately, they did not and the PSC had to engage other schools for teachers to cover. Most teachers refused and eventually the Ministry directed some headmasters and their deputies to cover since they do not go on strike.

Morale is reportedly very low among teachers as their salaries have been reduced to a fraction of what they used to earn before the government abandoned the use of multi-currencies.

Last week teachers and other civil servants went on strike demanding better pay but the government ignored the request and instead, deployed anti-riot police to intimidate the protestors.
