Parts Of Chegutu Declared No-go Areas As 'MaShurugwi' Run Amok

Incidents of machete attacks have surged in Chegutu, leaving a lot of people injured following a gold rush in the area.

Chegutu West Member of Parliament (ZANU PF), Dexter Nduna, has advised Chegutu residents to be alert and avoid visiting certain areas that have been invaded by the machete-wielding gangs. He said:

There’s a gold rush in the constituency at two areas justice Chitakunye and David Whitehead textiles, I urge you all to be alert and not visit these areas.

The crime of machetes has increased both in the day and night, the police are on high alert the Airforce doctors and nurses are attending to the injured at the general hospital since yesterday.

Attacks by machete gangs have been on the rise in various parts of the country wherever there is gold mining by artisanal miners.

A gang known as MaShurugwi, believed to have originated from Shurugwi, a small mining town in the Midlands province, has been fingered in some of the recent machete attacks in Mashonaland Central.
