Mthuli Should Raise Salaries Gradually & Carefully - Cross

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube presents the 2020 National Budget this Thursday, with high expectations that he will propose measures that will spur production.

Eddie Cross, an economist, says Ncube will seek to raise salaries, including for civil servants since inflation has eroded their earnings. He said:

There is going to increase in people’s salaries, but it’s going to be gradual and will be very carefully planned and monitored.

The other thing I think he is going to do is that he is going to strengthen the value of the Zimbabwe dollar.

However, another economist, Gift Mugano, says salaries and wages should not be increased as this will drive up prices.
