Bulawayo's Umzingwane Dam To Be Decommissioned

Bulawayo City Council may soon decommission one of its supply dams, Umzingwane after the water level fell to just 6 per cent.

Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni revealed that the water crisis in the city has been worsened by increased consumption levels while dams have fallen below 37 per cent. Said Mguni:

I would like to appeal to members of the public to conserve water as the situation is very critical. As of November 2, dam levels stood at just below 37 per cent which may force us to decommission additional dams soon.

Mguni further revealed that electricity load shedding at Ncema Water Treatment plant and Fernhill pumping station has exacerbated water challenges in the metropolis.

He encouraged residents to use water sparingly and adhere to the stipulated daily consumption of 115 Megalitres per day.
