Smuggling Syndicates Charge 2 000 Rands To Help Border Jumpers - Report

Hundreds of Zimbabweans desperate to migrate to South Africa are now reportedly parting with 2 000 Rands to get assistance from smuggling syndicates.

This comes as the government has failed to provide passports for citizens, forcing Zimbabweans to brave crocodile-infested rivers to reach South Africa. A woman who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com had this to say:

Just after passing the last tollgate in Beitbridge, there is a certain place where these buses drop those with no passports. These buses have agents who they work with.

Those agents are paid a certain amount by the bus driver, those passengers will then be taken to Beitbridge town where they will wait until it is pitch dark and the journey begins in earnest.

The Registrar General’s office is currently printing only 60 passports a day while it receives about 1 200 passports applications daily.
