Nurses Threatened For Going On Strike

Nurses at Harare City Council clinics say that top officials in the City of Harare were on Monday moving around, threating the striking nurses with disciplinary action if they fail to return to work.

Nurses who spoke to Health Times said that the council has been ignoring their pleas for better wages and they are now incapacitated. They said:

This is not a strike but we are incapacitated. We applied for a cushioning allowance but still, there is no movement in that regard. We are struggling to make ends meet let alone continue to come to work.

According to Health Times, to lowest paid nurse currently earns ZW$800 which is equivalent to US$35 as of the RBZ interbank rate while a senior nurse earns ZW$1400.
