Minister Gumbo Arrested, Faces Corruption Charges

Former Transport Minister Jorum Gumbo was arrested on Monday by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

Gumbo was accused of corruption involving a US$70 million deal to acquire four Boeing 777-200 planes from Malaysian Airlines during the Robert Mugabe era.

Speaking to ZimLive, ZACC spokesman John Makamure said Gumbo is expected to appear in court soon.

He faces charges of criminal abuse of office.

Gumbo is currently a Minister of State in the President’s Office in Charge of Policy Implementation. He was appointed Energy Minister in 2018 but was reassigned early this year and his role handed over to Fortune Chasi.
