MDC Starts Abolishing Ward & District Structures

The opposition MDC’s Bulawayo province has commenced the process of dissolving its ward and district executive committees to replace them with constituency-based structures.

According to provincial chairperson James Sithole, the restructuring exercise was in line with resolutions adopted by the party’s elective congress held in May this year. Said, Sithole:

In pursuant to our congress resolution, we are doing away with district and ward committees and replacing the structures with constituency coordinating committees or put simply polling-based committees.

Sithole explained that the incumbent district and ward executives will be redeployed to the branches in order to strengthen the party as they will be targeting voters in every constituency.

The restructuring exercise comes at a time when the province is embroiled in factionalism which dates back to the pre-congress days.
