Civil Servants Turn To Loan Sharks For Transport Money

Apex Council president Cecilia Alexander has urged the government to expeditiously deal with the issue of its workers’ remuneration, saying some civil servants have turned to loan sharks to get transport money.

Alexander made the revelation during a telephone interview with The Herald on Monday. She said:

We have received reports that some civil servants are going as far as borrowing money from loan sharks just to get bus fare to get to work, out of fear of victimisation.

It is not right, we urge those that cannot sustain themselves to let their employers know that they are incapacitated.

On Friday last week, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mthuli Ncube, said the government will soon award its workers another salary adjustment.

Ncube, however, did not indicate when the salary increment will be effected.

  1. Thats utter stupidity from Zimbabweans especially teachers who continually subsidise this ruthless employer. Apex and unions declared incapacotation long back but u see these fools continue struggling to go to work. The Mthulis will say u can afford. U are shooting yourselvs in the foot and also betraying doctors who have demonstrated some bravery in fighting for their dues
