A Harare-based police officer only identified as Mukosera was run over by a commuter omnibus and broke his arm in the process while attempting to arrest a tout, Phillimon Munikwa, 20, of no fixed abode.
Harare magistrate Learnmore Mapiye charged Munikwa with touting for passengers in contravention of the Road Motor Transportation Act and assaulting a peace officer.
The tout was remanded in custody to November 7 for bail application.
Mukosera allegedly jumped into a kombi Munikwa was loading and was shoved off the vehicle, hitting the tarmac and was run over by the vehicle as the driver tried to flee from the scene.
The incident occurred in the Harare CBD on October 14 at the corner of Robert Mugabe Road and Cameron Street (where kombis routinely pick up passengers illegally, a practice known as Mushikashika). Munikwa was arrested on October 23 at the Copacabana Bus Terminus.
