Mugodhi Apostolic Sect Divided By First Lady’s Visit

The Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church is reportedly divided over First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s visit to the church’s shrine in Wedza on a cancer screening awareness programme.

The alleged divisions were confirmed by Zimbabwe Amalgamated Churches Council patron Jimaya Muduvuri in an interview with NewsDay on Friday. He said:

We heard that some of them are questioning why the First Lady visited the church. This is dividing the sect, of which it is not good.

Mnangagwa visited the Mugodhi shrine in April 2018 alongside government officials from the Health ministry as part of her nationwide awareness campaign on free cancer screening.

The death of the sect’s founder, Tandewu Mugodhi, has exposed fissures within the movement as some followers accused the late sect leader of disrespecting their religious beliefs.
