Malawi Calls For Lifting Of Zimbabwe Economic Sanctions

Malawi has joined the Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states in calling for the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the United States of America and the European Union.

A statement from Malawi’ ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reads in part:

The government of the Republic of Malawi is committed to working with all involved stakeholders towards the lifting of the sanctions imposed on the government of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

The statement further said that the lifting of the sanctions would support the socio-economic development and reconstruction efforts in Zimbabwe.

A few hours after the statement, the US imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe’s minister of State Security Owen Mudha Ncube.
