"Here Is Why The New Dispensation Is The Old Reincarnated"

The Independent editor, Dumisani Muleya, opines that little positive change is to be expected under Zimbabwe’s ‘New Dispensation’ as it is a product of a coup whose goal was not to usher in progressive reforms but was centred on self-preservation and self-aggrandisement.

Hanging on the New Dispensation’s neck as an albatross are the vestiges of the Mugabe order in state institutions and the ruling party, the likes of George Charamba, Misheck Sibanda and Munyaradzi Kajese who are self-serving non-reformists, who are resistant and hostile to reform. Writes Muleya:

For reform to happen, Mnangagwa needs strong support in the party and government; which he doesn’t have.

He also needs a competent team and efficient bureaucracy; which he doesn’t have. He needs progressive thinking and political will; which are not there.

He badly needs resources; which are also not available. Although he can, he simply won’t reform and survive in the process.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa initially came to power after military generals had forced the then President Robert Mugabe to resign in November 2017.

Less than a year later, his victory had to be validated by a court after his main challenger in the July 30, 2018, election, Nelson Chamisa, of the MDC Alliance alleged rigging.
