Why Zimbabweans Should Shun Anti-sanctions March - NewsDay Editor

NewsDay editor, Nqaba Matshazi, says it is repugnant to take part in the anti-sanctions march slated for Friday, 25 October 2019 in support of a hypocritical and ruthless government which brutalises its citizens.

He cites several cases where the State showed utter disdain towards citizens’ human rights, among them, the death of Tafadzwa Tamangani who passed away in remand prison, and the consistent and “unreasonable” banning of MDC-planned marches by the police. Writing in his Thursday column, Matshazi said:

I cannot, with a clear conscience be part of this march, as it stands for everything that is wrong with this country — impunity, abuse, lack of accountability and complete disregard for human rights.

… I would rather visit MDC’s Malbereign councillor, Denford Ngadziore and activist Makomborero Haruzivishe, who were brutally assaulted by police officers outside the court and find out how they are coping.

Tamangani was arrested alongside 10 other street hawkers who witnessed his torture and death.

Meanwhile, Ngadziore and Haruzivishe were assaulted by police for protesting the death of Tamangani who died in remand prison after he was tortured and denied medical attention.
