Police Have Banned The 24 October Water Crisis Demo

The police have banned a water crisis demonstration that had been scheduled for today by the Community Water Alliance (CWA) saying that the security situation in the capital was not conducive for a demonstration.

Responding to CWA leader, Timothy Chitambure’s application, the chief superintendent officer commanding police for Harare central district, Mugomberi said:

Your notification letter to hold a march … has been noted. I am not in support of your intended demonstration due to the current security situation in the district. Any inconvenience caused is regretted.

CWA laments over inaction by responsible government ministries and departments when the water crisis continues unabated.

For years now, Harare City Council has failed to provide potable water, a tragedy that resulted in the outbreak of cholera and other waterborne diseases recently.
