Obert Gutu, the Vice President of the MDC led by Thokozani Khupe has poured cold water of prospects for a Government of National Unity (GNU).
Gutu posted on twitter saying that it is unlikely for the ruling ZANU PF to accept a GNU arrangement after they “won 2018 harmonised elections. He said:
After winning 2018 harmonised elections, it’s day-dreaming to think Zanu PF will be bludgeoned into submitting to a GNU simply to accommodate power-hungry opportunists. That’s not going to happen. You will be extremely dull to wish the economy to collapse in order to force a GNU.
His remarks come when analysts are calling for dialogue between president Emmerson Mnangagwa and MDC leader Nelson Chamisa to discuss and find solutions to the deteriorating state of affairs.
Gutu speaks after churches have called for a transitional authority that has to take charge of the country’s affairs for the next seven years.
