Govt Incentivise Bringing Grains To The GMB Early

The Govt has decided to give an incentive to farmers who bring maize to the GMB early for the 2019/2020 farming season The Chronicle reports. Farmers who start bringing maize on 1 April will receive a back pay from the government.

This was revealed by Agriculture deputy Minister who said:

Yes, farmers will receive a back pay and this will enable them to go back to the land. The adjustments will be paid to farmers who delivered their grains starting April 1

This came after farmers complained that they were receiving money from the GMB late while inputs prices were going up rapidly eroding their buying power. Despite the govt increasing the grains producer prices farmers who sent in their maize at GMB before the price review received their money at old prices without being adjusted for inflation.
