Cain Mathema Has Been Staying At A Harare Hotel For The Past 12 Months At The Govt’s Expense – Report

Home Affairs Minister, Cain Mathema has been staying at the Rainbow Towers since he assumed duty last year in September. Cain Mathema reportedly doesn’t own a property in Harare and is yet to be given a ministerial house by the government Zimlive reports

According to sources that spoke to the publication:

Mathema does not own a house in Harare and the hotel is his home since September 2018. In fact he does not own a house anywhere, other than a small flat in Bulawayo which his ex-wife Musa Ncube held onto after they divorced.

When he was a provincial minister for Matabeleland North, he lived in the village in Tsholotsho and would drive up and down to Bulawayo daily.

My understanding is that he uses it (hotel) in the same way MPs do. That’s when there’s cabinet, which means a couple of days a week or so. There’s definitely no block booking for a long stretch. So no, he does not stay there but checks in in the same way a Harare-based bureaucrat does when he works in Bulawayo

The suite Mathema is occupying cost $250 daily according to the same publication. Phelekezela Mphoko also made headlines in 2016 for staying at the same hotel for over a year waiting for the government to allocate him a house.

  1. This is not at “government ” expense!!! This is at the suffering people’s expense. This is blatant corruption again!!. Rubbish rubbish government and people are dying everyday. Rent a house for him it would be cheaper. My God .

  2. No wonder he senselessly waffles inaudibly when making senseless utterances under guise of government statement/position
