New Twist To Chamisa-Khupe Fight For MDC Leadership

The battle for opposition MDC leadership has taken a new twist following Nelson Chamisa’s withdrawal of his Supreme Court appeal against Douglas Mwonzora, Thokozani Khupe and Elias Mudzuri.

Chamisa had approached the Supreme court challenging a High Court judgment which nullified his presidency.

Mwonzora and Mudzuri accepted the withdrawal but Khupe through her lawyer, Professor Lovemore Madhuku rejected the withdrawal saying that she had a particular interest in the case and she is prepared to defend the judgment of the High Court.

This Shocked Chamisa’s lawyer, Advocate Thabani Mpofu who observed that Khupe was not part of the High Court proceedings, therefore, should not seek an order from the Supreme Court.

Mpofu also indicated that Chamisa was not happy with the copy of the party constitution which the Registrar of the High Court had obtained from another court record allegedly filed by Tsvangirai when he was defending his party’s constitution.

Resultantly, the Supreme Court rolled the matter over to this Friday to allow the parties to have access to the original court record and verify if the copy of the Constitution availed to the parties was the same with the one allegedly filed by Tsvangirai.
