ED Sends Chilling Warning To Striking Doctors

President Emmerson Mnangagwa warned striking doctors that they will regret their insistence on being “stubborn”.

He said that in August doctors’ salaries were raised, and they were later awarded a 30 per cent hike which the government then raised to 60 per cent, but the doctors rejected it due to outside influences working to destabilise the health sector. He said:

There is no country that doesn’t have problems, so we should sit down and talk while you are at work. But if you insist on being stubborn, we will see where it will get you to. You might think what you are doing is right, but we will see what will happen at the end.

Doctors have been on strike since September 3 this year saying their salaries have been eroded by inflation and they have become incapacitated as a result.

Last week, the Labour Court ruled that the strike was illegal but doctors insist that the ruling did not address their incapacitation.
