“Unwanted Pregnancies & Pr_stitution Are A Result Of Sanctions”, Zimbabwean Pastor

Unwanted pregnancies, pr_stitution and women dying while giving birth are some of the effects of Western-imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe.

This was said by Reverend Alexia Kuona, president of Zimbabwe Empowerment Trust (ZET) in an interview with NewZimbabwe.com on Tuesday. Said the clergyman:

Most women here have unwanted pregnancies because the country’s health institutions are failing to buy and supply family planning drugs because of the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the Western countries.

Some even die while giving birth because the sanctions have affected the health institutions in the country to an extent that they (authorities) are unable to buy machines and replace the obsolete ones.

The United States of America and the European Union imposed targeted sanctions on Zimbabwe’s ruling elite and a few Zimbabwean companies in 2001 and 2003 for allegedly suppressing democracy and rights abuses in the country.

After the ouster of Robert Mugabe from power by the military in 2017, the Western governments soften their stance towards Zimbabwe but eventually hardened their position following the current regime’s excesses which are “worse” than under Mugabe.

  1. These people really dont understand what the sanctions are and who they are targeted at but any excuse to shift the blame of the deterioration of country outside our borders is used.the ship is sinking and everyone is going down with it regardless of who you choose to blame.
