Government Threatens Disciplinary Action For Striking Doctors

The government is planning disciplinary action for the striking doctors following the expiration of a 48-hr ultimatum given by the Labour Court last Friday.

Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo said during a tour of Harare Hospital today:

“l have been advised by the Attorney-General (Prince Machaya) that because some doctors could not meet the deadline, that order falls away,”

“l have said we are going to follow the law to the last detail, professionally. What the law says is what we will follow.”

The doctors have been on strike for several weeks demanding better remuneration and working conditions.
