SADC Observer Mission Says Mozambique Elections Are Peaceful
SADC Observer Mission led by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri has said that the general elections underway in Mozambique are peaceful and run in a manner uniform with SADC elections guidelines.
Muchinguri who is said to have visited four polling stations said that the voters were not being coerced.
Her remarks come as reports earlier suggested that some poll stations in terror hit areas could be moved to other areas.
There were also reports suggesting that the head of a local observer mission was shot and killed ahead of the elections.
Mozambique’s incumbent president, Filipe Nyusi of the ruling FRELIMO is tipped to retain his post whilst his party is also expected to win the majority of votes cast.
