"Govt's Abandonment Of Workers Could Brew Civil Disobedience" - Analysts

Analysts have argued that the government’s “abandonment” of workers could result in civil disobedience. This comes as the Apex Council has written to the government declaring incapacitation of government workers.

In its letter, the Apex Council said that the government was ignoring genuine grievances raised by workers. The workers’ representative organisation also said that its members were suspending their services until the situation has been adequately dealt with.

The Apex Council’s letter comes a few days after the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association, a union of junior and middle-level doctors, has declared that it will not adhere to the government and court directive to go back to work.

Last week, senior doctors and nurses also joined the junior doctors’ strike which started on the 3rd of September this year. Workers are demanding sustainable salaries and better working conditions.

They say that their salaries have been eroded by the soaring inflation which has since graduated into hyperinflation.
