Arbitrator To Break Govt, Doctors Impasse

Health and Child Care Minister Obadiah Moyo said the government and striking doctors are now heading for arbitration following the expiration of the 48-hour ultimatum given by the Labour Court last Friday.

Moyo said this while addressing a Press conference in Harare on Monday. Said Moyo:

The Labour Court ruling allows for arbitration; it makes life easy for everyone. There would be an arbitrator, who will be able to oversee negotiations.

He said that the process should be completed within 14 days from the ruling.

Doctors have been on strike since September 3 this year, demanding a salary hike which is in line with the rate of inflation and a Labour Court directive for them to return to work within 48 hours was ignored.
