Bakers Refutes Reports Of Imminent Bread Price Hike

Bakers have denied social media rumours that the shortage of bread is artificial and that bakers intend to hike the price to $15.30 per loaf.

National Bakers Association of Zimbabwe president Dennis Wallah claimed that bread has disappeared from shops shelves due to floor shortages. He said:

Bread production is dwindling due to the unavailability of flour and bakeries are not able to supply in shops and supermarkets.

Bread shortage is already taking place and this is not a deliberate move from the bread industry to create a shortage in order to increase prices.

Minister of Industry and Commerce Mangaliso Ndlovu said there is a shortage of foreign currency to import the wheat and this has resulted in the shortage of bread. Ndlovu, however, said that the government is working to rectify the problem.
