"We Need A New Approach To Our Politics," Mwonzora

Former Secretary-General for the opposition MDC, Senator Douglas Mwonzora has said that Zimbabweans need to shun politics of hate.

His remarks come when there is a standoff between the ruling ZANU PF and the MDC since last year’s disputed elections.

Analysts argue that the impasse between the two major political parties in the country is worsening the already dire socio-economic and political crises. Posting on Twitter, Mwonzora said:

A review of Zimbabwean politics over the last few weeks leads us to one conclusion: We need a new approach to our politics. We need to jettison the politics of hate, toxicity and acrimony and replace it with politics of tolerance and rational disputation.

His remarks echo those of exiled former Minister of Tourism, Dr Walter Mzembi who said that Zimbabweans need to find each other for the transformation of the country.

Mzembi added that current political leaders must take a leaf from the 1987 Unity Accord and the 2009 Government of National Unity in which the late former Vice President, Joshua Nkomo and the late ex-Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, in that order, embraced their perceived political enemy, the late former president Robert Mugabe  for the transformation of the country.
