General Electric Subsidiary To Rehabilitate Kariba Hydroelectric Dam Spillway For $53.6 Million

Zambezi River Authority has awarded a $53.6 million contract deal to Freyssinet International and GE Hydro France to rehabilitate the Kariba Hydroelectric Spillway to ensure power generation for the 2 countries is smooth.

Speaking to ZBC ZRA said:

Rehabilitation of the spillway will ensure the safe long-term operation of the Kariba Dam for many years to come, and the continued contribution of the dam to the energy security and economic prosperity of Zambia and Zimbabwe

The project is supposed to be completed by 2023 but the contractors have already started installing their equipment. Financing for the project is reportedly coming from the World Bank, AfDB and the EU
