Harare residents are up in arms with the Council after it proposed converting recreational land into residential stands in Southerton.
Zimbabwe Combined Residents Association (ZICORA) president McSteven Nyabvure urged Harare mayor, Councillor Herbert Gomba, to listen to residents’ concerns. He said:
We are against the decision by the council to develop residential stands on a space which was (meant) for recreational purposes.
Southerton is an industrial hub which requires more breathing space to accommodate gases from industries.
Gomba had earlier spoken in support of the demarcation of a recreational park long Baxley Circle in Southerton into residential stands. His remarks had infuriated the residents, with some calling for his resignation.
