Businesses Urge ZESA To Hike Electricity Tariffs

With reports indicating that the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) intends to increase the electricity tariff from the present 38,61cents per kWh, business leaders have called for the tariff review to be expedited.

Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) chief executive officer Christopher Mugaga noted that power tariffs have remained stagnant while inflation has been rising. He said:

The power tariff increase is long overdue because the pricing of electricity should be on par with obtaining inflation rates.

In August this year, ZETDC effected an electricity tariff hike which tripled power charges for households. Despite the hike, the power supply has remained erratic.
