"Speaker Of Parliament Pushing ED/Chamisa Dialogue" Report

Speaker of Parliament of Zimbabwe, Advocate Jacob Mudenda is reportedly working towards bringing president Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition MDC leader, advocate Nelson Chamisa, to the negotiating table.

Mudenda is said to have set a team of diplomats who are negotiating with both the MDC and ZANU PF so as to establish common ground.

News Day reports that Mudenda has since initiated electoral reforms in a bid to lure Chamisa to the table.

An unidentified source told News Day that Mudenda has engaged the Zimbabwe Electoral Support Network (Zesn) and asked them to craft a draft bill that incorporates recommendations by observer missions on 2018 elections. The source said:

At the core of the dispute is how elections have been run in this country, the laws, how the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has failed and all these things are captured in a compendium of recommendations by election observer missions, which were compiled by Zesn.

The same organisation has also petitioned Parliament on these reforms and the Speaker’s people assured the MDC that he will be pushing for these reforms.

MDC Senator, advocate Douglas Mwonzora who was part of the Mudenda-led team that went to Sweden also said that Mudenda told the Swedish authorities that he had initiated the electoral reform process.
